Gas station burglarized on Hwy. 278

COVINGTON, Ga. – Investigators with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) are looking for whoever used a brick to shatter the front door and burglarize a gas station early Sunday morning.

According to a NCSO incident report, a deputy responded to a burglary alarm at the Chevron gas station on Highway 278 at Elks Club Drive at 3:45 a.m. Oct. 8. When he arrived, he found the front door shattered and a brick on the ground near the entrance.

After additional units arrived on the scene, deputies made entry and cleared the building. According to the report, multiple items seemed to be missing from the business. A crime scene unit was contacted to process the scene and the owner was notified.

Money and lottery tickets were among the things reported stolen. There are no suspects.
