UPDATE: Eastside lockdown lifted

UPDATE (Sept. 8, 1 p.m.): The lockdown at Eastside High School has been lifted. 

Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) Sgt. Cortney Morrison said K-9s were unable to locate the suspect and deputies will remain in the area in case there are any sightings.

COVINGTON, Ga. - Eastside High School is on lockdown due to a burglary in progress on Fernhill Court, which is adjacent to the school.

Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) Sgt. Cortney Morrison said a perimeter has been set up and K-9s and deputies are on scene attempting to locate the suspect.

The suspect has been described as a black male wearing a blue hoodie. He is reportedly tall and slender and possibly wearing red and black shorts.

Morrison said students and staff are not in immediate danger and she did not foresee it interrupting buses or school dismissal.
