COVINGTON, Ga. – A traffic stop for a broken tail light resulted in the arrest of a Covington man and took a stolen gun off the streets early Sunday morning.
According to a Newton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, Deputy Damien Fray was on patrol in the area of Alcovy Road and Alcovy Trestle Road just before 3 a.m. Oct. 22 when he observed a 2012 Hyundai Elantra with a broken driver’s side tail light.
After conducting a traffic stop, Fray reportedly found the driver, identified as Michael Bowman, 36, in possession of marijuana and a handgun reported stolen in Riverdale.
Bowman was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana less than 1 ounce., and theft by receiving stolen property.
