NAACP Youth to host event Saturday

The Newton County NAACP Youth are putting on a black history program from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Cousins Middle School, 8187 Carlton Trail N.W., Covington.

The event will feature singing, prayer, scripture readings, a poem reading by students O'Neil Hill by Amber Hill, and speaker Daniel Blackman, an environmental consultant.

According to his biography, Blackman has served as a consultant to National Wildlife Federation and has worked to raise environmental awareness in minority communities.

He was previously a business consultant who worked with companies such as Walt Disney and several major record labels.

The president and youth advisor of the local youth National Association of Colored People chapter will close the ceremony with short remarks.
