A 79-year-old Covington man accidentally crashed his car into the front entrance of the Rite Aid pharmacy at the corner of Emory Street and U.S. Highway 278 Monday afternoon, but no one sustained significant injuries and the store remained open through the crash.

The man was bringing his 77-year-old wife back from an appointment at Newton Medical Center and stopped to get a prescription filled, according to Covington police, but as he pulled into a parking space, his foot slipped off the brake and hit the gas.

The man’s 2009 Ford Focus jumped the concrete parking block and crashed into the glass front doors of Rite Aid, according to Sgt. Arvo Bowen.

“It was an honest mistake; thank God no one was hurt,” Bowen said at the scene.

The name of the driver was not immediately released.

The Rite Aid store manager said Tuesday he did not know the cost of the damage or when the doors would be replaced.
