Library implements quiet Thursdays
Placeholder Image

Beginning on Jan. 28 Newton County Library employees will be asking everyone who comes into the library on Thursdays to be especially quiet. Staff members have had numerous requests to lower the noise from cell phones, loud conversations, children screaming and other disruptions that make it difficult to study.

Children will have the opportunity to join the library’s free Quiet Club where they promise to be quiet and will encourage others to do the same. Each child who registers will receive a membership card and a button declaring their active participation in the program. Also, in the Children’s Room a sound-activated traffic light will indicate when the noise level gets too high. Staff members will then be able to gently remind everyone to lower their voices.

When patrons approach the library on Thursdays they will be greeted by a cheerful yellow road sign declaring “Quiet Zone Today.” For further information, please call the Newton County Library at (770) 787-3231. The Library is located at 7116 Floyd Street, Covington, Ga. 30014.
