Stocking stuffers: South Carolina resident Margo Macdonald picked up some gifts at Mayfield’s Hardware on the square while visiting with her long-time friend Linda Wade. The two women met when they were in first grade and remain close to this day. Mayfield’s is also one of the many shops on the square participating in the Elf on a Shelf Treasure Hunt this holiday season. Find all the elves perched on the shelves of participating merchants and be entered in a drawing for a stocking filled with more than $500 in gift certificates to spend in downtown Covington. Entry forms are available at participating merchants and a list of those can be found at www.downtowncovington.org. Also, shoppers can take advantage of holiday hours on the square. Most shops will stay open later on Thursday’s for holiday shopping to coincide with Santa’s visit to his workshop at the Ramsey’s Furniture annex building.
