Two people were killed on I-20 Thursday morning when one car travelled across the median into the path of another.

According to Georgia State Patrol Trooper Jeremiah Slayton, the crash occurred at approximately 8:13 a.m. around exit 98. A 2005 Ford Taurus driven by 19-year-old Lara Potts of Rutledge reportedly travelled across the westbound lanes of traffic, across the grass median - where the vehicle turned - and straight into the path of a 1996 Nissan pickup driven by 45-year-old Cullen Broome of Roswell.

The accident, which shut down a portion of the interstate for several hours, is still under investigation, by the GSP. Right now, however, it is believed to be an unfortunate accident.

"We are taking every step to make sure there was no contact with another vehicle before Potts' vehicle came across the interstate," said Slayton. "It also doesn't appear that the vehicle had any sort of mechanical failure or that it was weather related."

Slayton added that although toxicology reports are pending on both Broome and Potts, there is absolutely no indication that the accident was drug or alcohol related.
