CSX will be repairing five railroad crossings in Newton County and Covington next week, including the Emory Street crossing Wednesday, which will be completely closed that day.

Emory Street will be closed at the CSX crossing for 24 hours beginning at 7 a.m. Wednesday. The official detour will be to take Herring Street to Alcovy Road on to U.S. Highway 278 and back to Emory Street, said Covington Transportation Technician Terry Savage. West Street will also be able to be used as a detour by cars, but not large truck traffic.

The rest of the repair schedule is as follows, according to CSX Roadmaster John Phares:
Monday, Hazelbrand Road
Tuesday, McMahon Road
Wednesday, Emory Street and Industrial Drive
Thursday, West Street

Each road will also be closed for an entire 24 hours, beginning at 7 a.m. that respective day. Detours for the other road closings will be marked during repairs.

CSX is grading the crossings and will replace the cross ties and possibly the rails.
