Happy Founder's Day: The second season of The Vampire Diaries is wrapping up, and once again the square will serve as the setting for annual Founder's Day celebration in the mythical town of Mystic Falls, Va.
Although a parade isn't planned this year, the square is again decorated, this time with a "Gone with the Wind" movie on the square event. The season finale will again feature actors in period costumes, this time from the Civil War.
Hundreds of fans flocked to the square to watch filming and will likely stick around throughout the weekend. Chamber Tourism Director Clara Deemer said 2,544 visitors came to Newton County in March, the majority of them for Vampire Diaries' tours.
People from 37 states and 16 countries came to Newton, including visitors from Brazil, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Panama and Portugal.
