The Covington Municipal Airport is finally opening after four months – at least for daytime operations. The airport closed Sept. 21 for runway, taxiway and apron construction, which was expected to take two months. Heavy rainfall and unusually cold temperatures delayed completion by two months.

The airport will open at 9 a.m. today for general use. However, electrical work still needs to be finished, so the airport will be closed at night. The runway will also be closed for occasional short periods for electrical work. City Transportation Manager Billy Skinner said some additional work will be done later in the spring.
