PORTERDALE, Ga. - Porterdale Resident Ryan Barrett has announced he is running for Porterdale City Council Post 3.

Originally from Winder, Barrett Winder-Barrow high school and was president of the student body his senior year. He attended Columbus State University, serving as state president for two terms of Georgia Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) while in college. Ryan is an Emergency Room Specialist on the staff of Clearview Regional Medical Center and formally on the staff at Piedmont Newton Medical Center. He has worked in trauma centers and open-heart step down.

Ryan has served for two years on Porterdale Planning and Zoning Committee and is currently chair. He is dedicated to the continued success of the place he now calls home.

“Where else can you walk a few houses down the street to sit on the mayor’s front porch to discuss an issue, only to walk equally in the opposite direction to enjoy a nice day of fishing or kayaking on the river?” he said.  “City services at your fingertips, a police force that will respond in minutes, walk to downtown – all surrounded by aesthetics that only a small village can offer.”

Ryan’s wife Kristin shares his enthusiasm for their community. They are parents of two children- Ashlyn, who is a first grader at the Newton County Theme School, and David, who is four months old. It is his intention to work together with citizens and elected officials to keep Porterdale moving forward on a steady path to continued success.
