At first glance Tropical Nails may appear to be just another nail and hair salon, but once you walk inside you’ll notice the warm atmosphere and attentive service.

Owner Gracie Pinsky was born in Panama where she first learned the business. She moved to the United States 14 years ago, became a citizen and eventually fulfilled the dream of opening her own business in Covington in 2006.

“Gracie is special and she’s the heart of Tropical Nails,” customer Kathy Fowler said. “She runs a friendly, safe place, where you come to get pampered, have a friendly conversation and come away looking and feeling better.”

Fowler isn’t alone in her opinion. Since opening four years ago, Pinsky’s business has grown tremendously with the help of customers’ word of mouth advertising. Pinksy moved to the square in 2008 because she needed a bigger location.

“We do very good business. We’re well established and we have a good clientele; they’re very loyal,” Pinsky said.

Tropical Nails specializes in hair and nail care, with pedicures being their most popular service. Pinsky said her pedicures are in-depth 45-minute processes, with long massages and a quiet relaxing attitude.

“It’s all about quality of service,” Pinksy said.

She said pedicures are offered for men, women and children. She has several male customers and a mini-spa which for the kids, which, as far as she knows, is the only one in Covington.

Along similar lines, Tropical Nails can also host birthday parties, where the kids can get manicures and pedicures and have dessert and decorations. Princess mani-pedis for little girls are another speciality.

The most important step that any customer should remember before visiting the nail salon is to not shave her legs before a pedicure, because any cuts can lead to infection. Tropical Nails is even safer than most salons because they don’t use any blades in their pedicure process.

Pinsky is hoping to expand her business even further and is looking for a hair stylist and a nail technician to join her team. For more information on employment or customer services call Tropical Nails at (770) 784-1128 or e-mail her at tropicalnails@att.net.
