ATLANTA (AP) — City leaders and organizers of the upcoming AJC Peachtree Road Race say they will be taking enhanced security measures for the annual race in the wake of the bombings at the Boston marathon.

Mayor Kasim Reed said Monday that details are still being worked out but participants and spectators can expect to see more police officers at the July 4 race, as well as strategic steps happening behind the scenes.

Reed says what happened in Boston on April 15 will not stop the race, which he called an Atlanta institution. Reed vows every city resource will be available to ensure public safety.

The Atlanta Track Club, founded in 1964, is considered one of the largest running organizations in the U.S. The group puts on more than 25 events a year.
