Kennedy Dumaine certainly qualifies as somewhat of an over-achiever.

Dumaine, 16, already has almost all of the credits she needs to graduate from Eastside High School despite officially being a sophomore.

She also works two jobs totaling more than 40 hours a week — while maintaining an A/B average, said her mother, Amber.

“This is truly one of the most unique 16-year-olds, with the best work ethic and drive, you will meet,” her mother said.

Amber said her daughter’s dream is to “buy and refurbish an old school bus so she can travel the United States with her dog, Cash.”

Dumaine, however, said she has an even loftier travel goal.

“That’s been a dream of mine for awhile now,” she said of her school bus plan. “I want to travel the world.”

The youngest of four children, Dumaine was an avid horse riding enthusiast from an early age and competed in barrel racing competitions, she said.

She also played on an American Youth Soccer Association-affiliated travel soccer team and, later, on the soccer team at Eastside where she earned a varsity letter as a freshman.

To reach the amount of credits she needed to graduate, Dumaine enrolled in summer school classes at Eastside or Alpha Omega Preparatory Academy, her mother said.

Instead of taking electives, Dumaine already is dual enrolled at Georgia State University.

However, Dumaine said she plans to continue on an academic path that will allow her to graduate with her class in 2025.

Her plan after graduation is to immediately begin the summer semester at the University of Hawaii in Manoa. She also is considering attending the College of Charleston in South Carolina.

She currently works at both Amici’s restaurant and Pace N Poppy clothing boutique.

Dumaine also worked with the children’s camp at Rockdale Gymnastics and Amici’s for over 70 hours per week during the summer break.

“She loved working with the kids at the camp. I think you would be hard pressed to find another 16-year-old who puts in that many hours because she enjoys working,” her mother said.
