Giving Hands Food Pantry responds to SNAP Benefit disruption with expanded services and urgent call for community support

COVINGTON, Ga.— As the federal government shutdown continues, hundreds of families in Newton and surrounding counties are facing a critical loss of SNAP benefits—an essential source of food security. In response, the Giving Hands Food Pantry, in partnership with the Atlanta Community Food Bank, is expanding its services to meet the growing need.

For Those in Need:

The Giving Hands Food Pantry has extended its food distribution hours to serve more families. Residents of Newton, Butts and Jasper counties can make an appointment by visiting www.givinghandsfoodpantry.org and selecting “Food Distribution.” A photo ID and proof of residency are required. Updates and sign-up links are also available on Facebook by searching “Giving Hands Food Pantry.”

For Those Who Can Help:

The Giving Hands Food Pantry is calling on our community for urgent support. Every $1 donated provides 13 pounds of food, thanks to our partnership with the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Donations can be made at http://www.givinghandsfoodpantry.org under the “Donations” tab.

Organizations and individuals interested in hosting a food drive can email community@covingtonfirst.org to get started.

“These are difficult times, but we believe in the strength of our community,” said Margaret McDonald, Director of the Giving Hands Food Pantry. “Together, we can ensure no neighbor goes hungry.”
