Tickets are now on sale for the Covington/Newton County Chamber of Commerce's annual beach party which will feature the long-lived hit doo-wop groups The Tams and The Drifters.

Those attending can expect to be sweetly serenaded Aug. 11 at T.J.'s Country Rock by The Drifters whose numerous hits include "This Magic Moment" and "Under the Boardwalk" and by The Tams who achieved national and international acclaim with such singles as "Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy" and " What Kind of a Fool Do You Think I Am."

In its fifth year, the annual concert and chamber fundraiser has become a social highlight of the year for the county. Lisa Powell, director of programs for the chamber, said that while attendants have greatly enjoyed previous concerts given by The Swinging Medallions, event organizers felt it was time for a change and so contacted The Tams and The Drifters, two popular groups which are in keeping with the chamber's beach party theme.

Tickets for the event - which include one beverage - are $25 per person. Tables are $100 in addition to tickets. Side tables are $50. For the corporate sponsor price of $1,000, sponsors receive eight tickets, a round table with prime seating and a reception with The Tams and The Drifters.

T.J.'s Old Country Rock on Old City Pond Road features a completely remodeled balcony with seating, four bars, a stage, a dance floor and many rest rooms.

T.J.'s will provide a "bar buffet" with chicken wings, chicken fingers, meatballs, sandwiches and more for $5 a person. Attendants can also bring their own food but not outside beverages.

Doors open at 7 p.m. next Saturday with the concert slated to begin at 8 p.m. and end at 11 p.m.
