George L. Harrington

George L. Harrington, 37, of Topeka, Kansas, died Aug. 16 at Midland Hospice. The son of George and Frances (Mayo) Harrington, he was born in 1970 in LaGrange. He lived in LaGrange and Pine Mountain and later moved to Lanett, Ala., where he graduated from high school. Mr. Harrington moved to Topeka at age 19. He worked at the Shawnee County Department of Revenue and later WalMart. Mr. Harrington was a member of the Faith Family Life Center and Christian Motorcycle Association, Heaven on Wheels Chapter. He will be remembered for his love of people, his habit of greeting people with hugs, his ability to eat and his goofy smile.

Surviving are mother Frances Mitchell of Topeka; brothers Thomas Harrington, Sam Harrington, Jim Harrington, all of Covington; sisters Janice Harrington, Tammy Ellington (Eric) of Covington; uncle and aunt the Rev. Don and Louise Garner of Topeka; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Harrington was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 20 at Faith Family Life Center, 3710 N. Topeka Blvd. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice in care of Davidson Funeral Home.

 

Thoughts on 9/11

This could be one of those generational things perhaps, but I think it's more in the way of a universal matter of compassion, awareness and plain shock that transcends any era. It's a simple question really, but riveting in its directness - do you remember where you were when you heard about the 9/11 attacks? Sept. 11, 2001 - a day containing events so unimaginable, they still defy comprehension.
