The Covington News strives to bring you the sports that affect your every day life, going beyond the latest prep scores and news.

One of the biggest aspects of sporting life, not only in Newton County, but throughout the country, is the world of golf, which is a mainstay here thanks to Ashton Hills Golf Club and The Oaks, as well as other courses throughout nearby counties.

This space, every Friday, starting next week, will be dedicated to golf, through the words of the area’s experts from both The Oaks and Ashton Hills. The local course’s golf professionals, course superintendents and management have been invited and accepted to provide insight in this new weekly column.

But as always with The News, the forum is open to our readers.

If you have any tips, questions for the area’s professionals or highlights, such as hole-in-one achievements or tournament wins, feel free to share them at bfazio@covnews.com.

With spring just around the corner, it’s a great time to hit the links at both area courses and there is plenty of opportunities to do so.

At Ashton Hills, the newly renovated course is hosting a Captain’s Choice Tournament Saturday starting at 10 a.m. For more information on this event or others at Ashton Hills, call 770-385-0064 for details.

The Oaks is offering After School Junior clinics every Thursday. The course is also hosting the Covington Kiwanis Tournament Friday, March 15 at 9 a.m. Snapping Shoals is also hosting a tournament at The Oaks, Saturday, March 23 starting at 10 a.m.
