For the past two years, nobody in the state has been able to catch Newton track star Tyler Long or his teammates for that matter, at least not in the 4x100 meter relay. And after signing with Campbell University Wednesday, Long's days of running like the wind competitively will continue for the next four years.

Long was part of Newton's 4x100 meter relay team that captured the last two Class AAAAA titles. He along with Chris Dickerson and Akeem Hunt won the state title last year along with Bart Lindsey and the trio made it back-to-back championships with new teammate Darius Dean this year.

Long has been a member of Newton's track and field team since he was a freshman. Along with his prowess in the 4x100 meter relay, Long participated in many other events including the triple jump, the 100 and 200 meter dash, and the 4x400 meter relay.

Over the course of Long's career, the track team became one of the state's best. The Rams won two Region 2-AAAAA titles and of course took home the top medal in the 4x100m in Class AAAAA twice.

Long leaves Newton as the school' record holder in the 100m with a time of 10.91 and as a part of the 4x100m Relay team with a state qualifying time of 41.54.

Long will continue to run the short distance sprints at Campbell but could wind up running multiple events like he did at Newton.
