COVINGTON, Ga. — Soccer teams for Newton and Alcovy met up for a non-region matchup on Friday, Feb. 4 at Newton High School.

In both matches, Newton got the better of Alcovy. The Lady Rams shut out the Lady Tigers 6-0 then after the girls match, the Rams downed the Tigers 7-3 to conclude the sweep.

During the girls match, it was all Newton.

Savannah Massey seemed to take over the Lady Rams scoring four of the team’s six goals. Kanda Booker and Eris Sellers accounted for a goal apiece, too.

Once the girl's game was over, the boys’ teams took the field.

In its four-goal victory, the majority of Newton’s goals were scored by two players: Rigo Sanchez and Onemeh Eraktpotobo.

Sanchez and Eraktpotobo scored two goals apiece in the winning effort.

Devon Samuels, Brady Williams and Luis Lopez assisted with the win by each of them scoring one goal, too.

The Tigers remained competitive, though, on Friday night.

Destin Cohron, Miguel Ramos and Caleb Tondee each netted a goal to keep the match close.

But it was too little too late for the Tigers.

Both teams for Alcovy drop to 0-2 on the young season with home matchups against Locust Grove due up next on Feb. 11. For Newton’s teams, they improved to 2-0 with Clarkston having come to town on Feb. 8.
