Alex Ordu continued to add to his list of honors in his first year of college basketball.

The 2011 Newton graduate and former Rams' basketball standout just finished his freshman season at Oxford College, and was honored at the two-year school's annual banquet this weekend.

Ordu was named the Eagles 2011-12 Player of the Year.

The point guard averaged 14.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2 steals per game.

Along with being named the top Oxford player, Ordu was also named one of the top National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association players in the country.

He was named to the NJCAA All-American third team recently. He is the fifth Eagle to receive such an honor, joining Austin Ewing (2004-05), Austin DeAngelis (2006), Chad Hixon (2007, 2008) and Peter Ricks (2009).

Hixon was the guest speaker at Oxford's award ceremony, which honored in part, Ordu.

At Newton, Ordu helped lead the Rams to a second straight region title in 2010-11 and a 26-5 (16-1) record and to the State AAAAA Elite Eight.
