After pacing the Lady Rams with 10 points in its 51-19 victory over Druid Hills Tuesday night, Newton senior Mercedes Booker has been named the Newton Athlete of the Week.

Booker led a balanced scoring effort against the Lady Red Devils, helping Newton to its sixth region victory of the season.

The Lady Rams lead Region 2-AAAAAA with an unblemished 6-0 record.

Booker also helped the Lady Rams down rival Rockdale County this past weekend, converting a late layup against the Lady Bulldogs in Newton's 56-45 win.

Booker has helped Newton win its last three games during a three-game home stand.

Booker and the Lady Rams return to action tonight in region play at home against Lovejoy.

Game time is set for 6 p.m.

Newton will be off for a week after taking on the Wildcats tonight and will return to action against region rival Alcovy on Jan. 24
