The following is an update on former Newton County high school players and their on-the-field performances during the 2013 season:

Akeem Hunt, Newton – Hunt and the Purdue Boilermakers had a bye week this past Saturday.

Hunt and the Boilermakers return to Big 10 action this Saturday against Nebraska for the Hammer Down Cancer Game beginning at noon.

D.J. Hill, Newton – Hill and the Virginia Cavaliers dropped a surprising 48-27 decision to Ball State last Saturday.
Hill participated, but did not have a tackle in the upset.

Virginia returns to the gridiron Saturday at Maryland at 3:30 p.m.

Devon Edwards, Alcovy – Edwards and the Duke Blue Devils had a bye week.

Edwards and the Blue Devils take on Navy this Saturday at home at 12:30 p.m.

James Johnson, Eastside – Johnson and the William & Mary Tribe dropped just their second game of the season this past weekend in a 20-16 loss to Villanova.

Johnson and the Tribe's offense gained 271 total yards in the win. The offensive line allowed two sacks in the loss.

William and Mary returns to action Saturday against Penn.
