Madison County sweeps Eastside

The Eastside Eagles varsity softball team dropped a pair of contests over the weekend in the second round of the Region 8-AAAA softball tournament to Madison County.

The Eagles fell 9-0 and 13-1, setting up a date with Lumpkin County to determine the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds in the region for the state playoffs.

In Eastside's opening-game 9-0 loss to the Red Raiders, the Eagles recorded just one hit against Madison County's Randee Bettis. Sydney Mask notched the Eagles only base hit in the loss with a single.

The Eagles gave up three runs in the first inning before allowing the Red Raiders to score six runs in the fourth.

The Red Raiders topped Eastside 13-1 in the second game of the double header.

Eastside opened the game with a 1-0 lead via a Caitlin Ray home run, but surrendered 13 unanswered runs to the Red Raiders.

Eastside returns to action Thursday against Lumpkin County at 5 p.m. in Madison County.
