Troy Hoff earned his first win as a head coach with a 41-0 victory over Alcovy and Hoff’s coaching staff gifted him with the game ball afterward.
The Eagles came out swinging and scored on their first possession with a 76-yard drive that took just a two minutes and 12 seconds. Junior running back Eric Stokes punched it in with a 19-yard touchdown run after junior quarterback Austin Holloway got into Tiger territory with a 32-yard designed run.
Just a few plays later Alcovy turned the ball over in their own territory. Stokes punched it in again from three yards out for his second touchdown of the game to give Eastside a 14-0 lead in the first period.
Eastside’s defense forced a three-and-out and the offense turned it into a five-yard touchdown pass from Holloway to junior receiver Josh Sims. Holloway would hook up with Sims again before halftime when the two connected on a beautiful 35-yard bomb that Sims hurled in for the touchdown as the defender swiped his arms at the ball, barely missing it, giving Eastside a 28-0 lead before halftime.
The Eagles added two more scores in the third period and the starters came out for the entire fourth as the clock ran without stopping per the mercy rule.
Alcovy will look to get its first win since 2013 when they travel to play Baldwin next week. Eastside will be at home to face Madison County.
