Trent Taylor scored six goals in final 26 minutes to lead his Eastside Eagles (1-2-1) to a 7-1 win over the Salem Seminoles (3-2) Friday night at Cousins Middle School.

The win was monumental for the Eagles in more ways than one. First, it was new coach Champ Young's first career coaching victory at his alma mater. Second, it was against Salem, an old 8-AAAA rival that beat Eastside six times between 2003 and 2008 by an aggregate score of 48-2.

Third, Taylor may have set the all-time school record for goals in one match by a single player.

Taylor had help on this night. Zach Chambers notched his first varsity goal while assists were provided by Wesley Chambers, Jake Alwes, Austin Cooper and Zack Pirtle. The Eagles' defense was stout throughout.

Earlier in the evening, the Lady Eagles (1-3) played well but lost to the Lady Seminoles 3-0.

Salem (4-1) scored two goals in the first seven minutes and added another late in the first half to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.

Hannah Engelbracht scored twice for the Lady Seminoles.
The Lady Eagles keeper, Carly Farrow, was knocked out of the game with less than four minutes left in the half.
Salem's third goal came about a minute after her exit.

The Lady Seminoles would not relinquish their lead, withstanding 17 shots by the Lady Eagles.
