Eastside 200 medley relay wins at state

The Eastside boys’ relay team put up its best performance yet in Saturday’s state swim meet at Georgia Tech.
Eastside’s 200-yard medley relay team won the B finals in a time of 1:41.69. It was four seconds less than their season best.


Jack Mitchell swam the first leg of the medley in the backstroke, followed by Robbie Ellwanger in the breaststroke, Joey Ellwanger in the butterfly and Samuel Stewart swimming the anchor leg in the freestyle.


The Eagles" 400-meter freestyle relay with the same four swimmers also made the state finals, finishing in 15th place.


Eastside finished 31st overall with 23 points in the Class AAAAA championship.


“The Eastside swimmers swam lights out at the state championships,” Eastside coach Gregg Ellwanger said. “These kids are amazing swimmers and student athletes.”

In just his first season as head coach, Jabari Bennett has brought a region championship back to EastsideOn Friday, the Eagles’ boys soccer team took down North Oconee 1-0 for the program’s first region title since the 2001 season.It was truly an emotional moment for Bennett and the Eagles’ faithful after the final seconds ticked off the clock. Following a celebration that featured a gatorade bath and the raising of Eastside’s new ‘Region 8-AAAA Champion’ banner, Bennett shared how special the moment was for him and the team.
