COVINGTON, Ga. — In her final home basketball game at Eastside, Lizzie Teasley dropped a career-high 37 points to help lead the Lady Eagles to a 70-43 win over Apalachee.
Accomplishing this was just icing on the cake for Teasley’s notable career.
“When I was told that I had 37 points, a feeling of gratitude came over me for the opportunity that I have to play the game I love and for all the hard work I have put in to finally pay off,” Teasley said. “It was definitely a very special night that I’ll never forget.”
At the conclusion of her Lady Eagle career, Teasley racked up quite a few accolades.
Teasley earned the Eagle Award and was selected as part of The Covington News’ Newcomer Team her freshman season. Her 10th grade season was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the beginning of her junior season, Teasley was voted as team captain and at the end earned a spot on the Region 8-AAAAA All-Region team as well as a spot on the All-Covington News team.
Teasley’s final season concluded with a First Team All-Region honor for Region 8-AAAAA as well as voted as the Lady Eagles’ team captain all season.
From the very beginning of the 2021-22 season, head coach Gladys King was high on Teasley’s impact on the Lady Eagle program. And it was that impact King highlighted as a huge difference maker for her team this season.
“The presence of Lizzie Teasley has brought on leadership, good decision-making and less stress on the court for some of the other girls,” King said. “We depend on her a lot. No pressure on Teasley, but she’s a big part of the difference.”
During her senior campaign, Teasley averaged a team-high nearly 10 points per game and averaged close to five rebounds per game, which was second on the Lady Eagles.
Above all else, though, the confidence from her head coach has meant the most to Teasley.
“She trusts me with just being out there and leading the team,” Teasley said. “It makes me feel at ease to go out and, if I make a mistake, I can fix it and go back again and get better.”
Even though her basketball career is over, Teasley is remaining active as a member of the Lady Eagle soccer program. She has also been a member of FFA since her eighth grade year and is currently serving as the chapter’s vice president.
