Tigers, Rams set for regional tourney

With regular season regional play coming to a close last week, the Alcovy Tigers and Newton Rams varsity softball teams turn their attention to the 2013 Region 2-AAAAAA softball tournament.

The tournament will feature the top four teams in the region and will be played in a double elimination format.

For the second year in a row, the Tigers claimed the top spot in the region, finishing the year with a perfect 6-0 mark in region play.

As the No. 1 seed, the Tigers will host their opening round game against either Luella or Rockdale. The Lions and the Bulldogs will play in a deciding game to determine the third and fourth tournament seed.

The Newton Rams, who finished the season with a 5-1 mark in region action, falling to just the Tigers in region play.

The Rams will claim the No. 2 seed in the region and will also host an opening-round game on Oct. 8.

The tournament will begin on Oct. 8 and run thorugh Oct. 11 and will feature at least six games. A seventh game willbe played on Oct. 11 if needed. A full bracket can be found online at The Covington News.
