The Alcovy Tigers varsity softball team closed their 2013 regular season home slate with a 4-0 victory over Putnam County, honoring seniors Chelsie Nolley, Morgan Beshears and Waneshia Morris on Senior Night on Thursday.
The senior class combined for three hits and a RBI in the win, while pitcher Kayla Johnson surrendered just two hits on the mound while striking out 10.
Nolley started off Senior Night with a bang, leading off with a home run in the first inning.
"All three players have played hard this season," Alcovy coach Russell Brock said. "We wouldn't be where we are at without them. We're hoping we still have a long way to go with them this season."
Holding a 1-0 lead heading into the fifth inning, the Tigers poured on three more runs in the frame. Morris reached home on a Raven Smith single up the middle to double Alcovy's lead 2-0.
Johnson helped herself on the mound with a double to right field, plating Smith to extend Alcovy's lead 3-0. Holly Murphy knocked in the Tigers' final run on a grounder, giving the Tigers a 4-0 advantage that Putnam County never threatened.
Aubrey Thacker led the Tigers at the dish with a 3-for-3 performance, while Johnson and Nolley both notched a pair of hits.
Alcovy returns to action on Oct. 2 against Heritage.
