Tigers end losing skid

Alcovy saw the return of one of its top players and got off the schnide as 2013 gets under way.

The Tigers had lost five straight, their longest streak since the 2007-08 season.
Alcovy lost six straight from Dec. 27 through Jan. 12.

This season, the skid stopped Tuesday as Alcovy hosted Luella, previously unbeaten in Region 2-AAAAAA, 60-51.

The Tigers led 42-40 after three quarters and outscored Luella 18-11 in the final eight minutes.

Trailing 40-38, the Tigers scored the next four points on two free throws by Marcus Beasley and a field goal late in the third quarter.

After Luella tied it at 44, Alcovy went on an 11-3 run and wouldn't be challenged the rest of the way.

The Lions were 5-0 heading into the matchup and Alcovy is now 2-4 in 2-AAAAAA and 6-11.
