Former Alcovy standout DeVon Edwards wrapped up his outstanding 2013 season with the Duke University football team with an honor off the field last week.
Edwards was selected to the 2013 Academic All-ACC Football team, joining the Blue Devil's record setting 21-member class.
Duke's 21 Academic All-ACC selection matches the Blue Devils' 2012 class.
Joining Edwards on the academic team was fellow All-American selection Jamison Crowder, as well as the ACC's top academic athlete, Perry Simmons.
Ross Cockrell and Dave Harding joined Simmons on the team as four-time academic team selections.
Duke led all ACC schools with 21 selections. Maryland and N.C. State sent six to the academic team, while Clemson and Virginia added four apiece. Boston College, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest had three selections apiece, while Florida State, Miami, North Carolina and Syracuse earned two selections apiece.
To be eligible for consideration, a student athletes must have earned a 3.0 grade-point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 GPA for the duration of his academic career.
Edwards finished the season earning All-American honors while recording 64 tackles and three interceptions while averaging 30.2 yards per kickoff return with two touchdowns.
