Alcovy volleyball dismantled Salem in two games Thursday to pick up its second win of the week. The Lady Tigers won both games 25-12 to defeat the Lady Salem Seminoles for the second time this year.

Brittany Jacobson led the attack with nine kills and four aces in the two games before turning her ankle on the last point of the match. She is questionable for Alcovy's area match Tuesday.

Alcovy dropped their first match against Monroe Area 25-21, 11-25 and 18-25 earlier in the night. After a comeback victory in the opening game, the Lady Tigers were unable to carry the momentum into the second game, then had their comeback bid denied in the third.

"We were getting better passes, better sets an that led to better offense in he Salem games," Alcovy coach Amanda Briggs said. "We played so much better fundamentally in those games and in the first game against Monroe Area and that was the difference."

In the Salem match, Alcovy fell behind 2-0 before Jacobson rallied the Lady Tigers with a pair of kills during a five-point run. Salem answered with two straight points before Jacobson again scored a pair of kills. Paige Hood also had a key kill during Alcovy's second five-point run.

Salem crept to within three at 10-7 before Alcovy extended it to a 10-point lead thanks to three Jacobson aces and a Briana Clark kill. Jacobson's kill late and Clark's ace sealed the first game.

In the second game, Alcovy again dropped the first point before reeling off a string of points. Clark scored two quick points from the service line on aces and Jacobson capped the run with a kill. From there, Alcovy never looked back. The Lady Tigers played well the rest of the way with the only downer coming on the final play when Jacobson went down in a heap at the net after rolling her ankle.

Alissa Yang was the star in the opening game versus Monroe Area as her hitting fueled the Lady Tigers back from a 20-17 deficit.

"We played really well in the first game but we just didn't play in the second game," Briggs said. "It's hard to come back from that. It's something we're trying to work on. Right now it's the story of our season."
