Investigator Brian Lamar Mahaffey, born May 7, 1982 in Conyers, GA, died May 8, 2010 in Conyers, GA. He is survived by his loving and cherished wife, Diana Simoes Mahaffey and two adoring children, Trenton Waylon Mahaffey, age 2 and Aniston Leigh Mahaffey, age 3 months; parents, Terry Lamar and Cindy Mahaffey, Conyers; brother, Christopher M. and Katie Mahaffey, Locust Grove; grandparents, Robert and Mabel Mahaffey and Patricia Land Horsley; father and mother-in-law, Dennis and Cindy Simoes, Covington; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert W. Land. Brian attended and graduated from Heritage High School in 2000 where he was an outstanding football player. He later joined the Rockdale County Sheriff's Department in July 2005 where he progressed from a Jailer to Patrol Deputy and finally to Investigator. In his spare time, Brian enjoyed playing with his son, fishing, football, loud music and cars. He loved his wife, children, family and truly loved his job.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Conyers at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Bob Winstead officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Conyers, 2100 Hwy. 138 NE, Conyers from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Contributions may be made to The Brian Mahaffey Memorial Fund c/o Georgia Federal Credit Union, 1381 Milstead Ave., Conyers, GA 30012.
