Volunteers recognized: The city of Conyers held its annual volunteer recognition banquet April 22, at the Georgia International Horse Park Carriage Room. The following volunteers were honored with awards: Linda Davis (2009 Conyers Police Reserve Officer of the Year), Paul Beatrice (2009 Conyers Police Reserve Distinguished Service Award), Joanne Medlock (2009 Georgia International Horse Park Grand Prix Award), William Emofonmwan (2009 Conyers Volunteer Spirit Award) and Kathy Harper (2009 Conyers Volunteer of the Year). Not pictured: Matt Cleland (2009 Conyers Police Auxiliary Officer of the Year).

More than 80 volunteers and Conyers officials were in attendance to celebrate volunteerism in the City of Conyers at the city's annual volunteer banquet held Thursday, April 22 in the Georgia International Horse Park's Carriage Room. This year's theme was "TEAM: Together, Everyone Achieves More."

The banquet honored volunteers of city committees and organizations including the Conyers Police Department's Reserve and Auxiliary Unit, the Conyers Main Street Program, Board of Zoning and Appeals, Planning Commission, Downtown Development Authority, Historic Preservation Commission, Convention and Visitor's Bureau and the Georgia International Horse Park Foundation.

Award recipients of the evening included the 2009 Conyers Police Reserve Officer of the Year Linda Davis, 2009 Conyers Police Auxiliary Officer of the Year Matt Cleland, and the 2009 Conyers Police Reserve Distinguished Service Award was presented to Paul Beatrice. Keith Kinder was also recognized for his 15 years of service to the Conyers Police Reserve and Auxiliary Unit.

The 2009 Georgia International Horse Park Grand Prix award was presented to Joanne Medlock, the 2009 City of Conyers Volunteer Spirit Award was presented to William Emofonmwan and Kathy Harper was named the 2009 City of Conyers Volunteer of the Year.

In 2009, City of Conyers and Main Street Program volunteers clocked in over 1,600 hours of volunteer time working various community events and attending committee meetings. In 2009, the Conyers Police Department's Reserve/Auxiliary Unit logged over 4,101 hours of training (including annual firearms qualification and use of force training) providing crowd and traffic control at city events, and patrol time.
