It was a banner day for the Rockdale County High School boys track team Friday at the Third Annual New Manchester Invitational, as the Bulldogs picked up 14 top-10 finishes and placed first overall.
The Lady Bulldogs finished seventh overall, tallying six individual top-10 finishes.
Rockdale boys win
In the boys competition, Rockdale picked up four top-5 finishes in the short dashes, with Lawrence Crawford leading the way with first place finishes in the 100 meter dash (10.73) and 200m dash (22.15). Malik Dawkins and T.J. Warren also earned top-5 finishes for the Bulldogs in the 400m dash finishing second (49.71) and fourth (50.15), respectively.
In the longer runs, Dawkins placed third overall with a time of 2:01.35 in the 800m run, while Dax Willette finished eighth overall (4:46.89) in the 100m run.
Jhibri Greer secured a third place finish in the 300m hurdles in a time of 40.67 and the Rockdale relay teams earned second place finishes in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays, posting times of 41.97 and 3:22.25, respectively.
Rockdale wrapped up the event’s track competitions with a third place finish in the 800m sprint medley with a time of 1:37.98.
In the field, Robert McCray and Keijne Thomas led the Bulldogs, as McCray captured first place tosses in the shot put (52-09.0m) and discus (143-09m). Thomas placed second in the shot put (50-11.0m) and sixth overall in the discus (128-09).
Auburn placed second overall in the team competition with 110 points, while New Manchester placed third with 71 points.
Lady Bulldogs finish seventh
The Lady Bulldogs track and field team also placed in the top-10 at the New Machester event, finishing with six top-10 individual finishers.
Candace Hill paced Rockdale with a pair of first place finishes in the 200m dash and 400m dash, finishing in times of 24.37 and 55.89, respectively.
Rockdale had a pair of top-10 finishers in the 1600m run, as Antwonette Thomas placed second (5:33.27) and Keke Lewis finished eighth (6:01.83) in the event.
The Lady Bulldogs 4x100m relay team finished 10th overall in a time of 49.49, wrapping up Rockdale’s top-10 finishers on the track.
In the field, Amira Solomon placed eighth overall in the long jump with jumps totaling 15-10.
In the team competition, Auburn finished first overall with 84 points, while Miller Grove (81) and New Manchester (77.5) finished second and third, respectively.
Rockdale returns to action Wednesday at Salem for the NewRock Championships.
