We are fortunate here in our community to have active civic clubs that are still willing to work and contribute their money and time for the betterment of the community.

The Covington Kiwanis Club recently gave $500 to the local Salvation Army to help children and families this holiday season, each member contributed $50 of their own money to help the same organization.

The Covington Rotary made sure that more than 400 children of the community received a special cheer from Old Saint Nick; the Rotarians have performed this service for more than 60 years.

The local Lions Club along with the Main Street program again provided the man power and expertise in putting on another first class parade.

The Pilot Club members also pitched in this year as they do every year to provide that special love and caring needed to help families of the community this holiday season.

The Kiwanis and Rotary are also sponsoring the communities annual legislative prayer breakfast coming up on Jan. 11.

We are fortunate indeed to have the ladies and gentleman who are members of these great organizations in our community.

We all owe each of you a big debt of gratitude for your worthwhile good deeds.
