Sunday we ran a front page feature that told a story of an unseen volunteer in our community. Andre Johnson doesn’t receive accolades and his name and picture are not seen regularly. But Andre gives himself on daily basis to be a supportive mentor to a young man in need of such support.

It is the Andre Johnsons of our community who are the heart and soul of what our community really is all about. We nominated Andre Johnson as a hometown hero and this month we will be re-running the names and stories of our entire hometown heros for the past year.

Soon on our website covnews.com you will have the opportunity to vote for your hometown favorite of the year. The top three vote getters will be honored at a special breakfast hosted by ourselves and our partner General Mills.

We recognize Andre for doing nothing more than something he loves. That’s what being a hometown hero means to Newton County.
