To the editor: As you know coach H. J. Wright passed away on January 27, 2011.  By all accounts, he was loved and respected by many in the Covington community.  Over the past year his contributions have been recognized and his life celebrated.  At the onset you were there reporting the story.  The Wright family would like to publicly thank you and all of the others who were so thoughtful and gracious in the outpouring of love and support.

We appreciate his recognition at the 2011 Inaugural Community Black History Program, the brainchild of former mayor Kim Carter.  The dedication of Coach Wright Court at R.L Cousins gym in January 2012 provides such a legacy. The most recent celebration and raising of the 1965 R.L. Cousins Wolverines banner in the Newton High School gym initiated by NHS head basketball coach Rick Rasmussen represents the growth, unity and love that are abound in our community.  Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to all of you, and special thanks are in order for the Covington City Council, the Newton County Recreation Commission, the Newton County Board of Commissioners, the Newton County Board of Education and Newton High School, and the R.L Cousins Community Center and Arthur Blanks Family Youth.

Sincerely,

The Family of Coach H. J. Wright III
