Re-consecration ceremonies

Community members: I am writing to inform you of two important upcoming events in our community. As you may have heard, recent research has determined that there are hundreds of unmarked slave graves in the historic African-American city cemetery located off East Street in Covington. There is also another city-owned cemetery located off West Street in the sand Hill community where more than 75 unmarked slave graves were discovered.

On Saturday, Sept. 3, we will gather in prayerful remembrance of our honored foremothers and forefathers to re-consecrate these hallowed burial grounds. We would be honored if you could join us for these events.

We will first gather at 11 a.m. at Eastside Cemetery, located across from the Covington Police Department. We will then gather at 2 p.m. at Westview Cemetery, just off West Street, in the Sand Hill community.
