Dear Editor: The Liquor By the Drink Aug. 6 editorial and cartoon are right on target.

I continue to respect and admire Commissioner Ewing. He does his homework and has the courage of his convictions.

As an individual and as a commissioner he has the right, and perhaps the duty, to express his opinions and to cast his vote. As a commissioner he does not have the right to voluntarily deny the voters that same opportunity.

The question before the commission was not acceptance or rejection of liquor by the drink. The question was whether the commissioners would acknowledge the voters’ right to make that decision.
