Letter: Local scout still seeks splash park funding
Letters

Hello Family, Friends, Scouters, & Citizens,

My name is Harrison and I am working toward earning my Eagle Scout Rank in the Boy Scouts of America.
I proposed the idea of bringing a splash park to the Newton County Recreation Commission and received unanimous support to build a free-to-use, low-risk, all-inclusive water feature at Turner Lake.
I began my scouting career at age eight as a Cub Scout. I am currently serving as Senior Patrol Leader for Troop 93 charted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I have earned more than 50 merit badges, attended National Youth Leadership Training, and taken destination trips to Philmont Scout Ranch and Training Center and Florida Sea Base. Scouting has inspired me to want to make a lasting impact with my Eagle Scout Project right here in our community.

I wanted to do something that would fill a need and be possible to accomplish. I saw a lack of fun water recreation in the area and a splash park seemed like the perfect idea. The best part of my idea is that it will be free to the public and include youth of all abilities and comfort levels to participate. I have spent months preparing the information, its associated costs, and an implementation plan to make it happen.
I am a junior at Eastside High School and NCCA STEM.

I am leading a fundraising initiative to make the splash park a reality. My plans include raising $250,000 to cover the costs of the splash pad, landscaping, and a pavilion for the families of Newton County to enjoy. Because earning the Eagle Scout Award requires leading others, my project goes beyond fundraising as will be demonstrated in many ways in the coming months.
I invite you to join me in enhancing Newton County recreation! I am seeking your support in raising monies for this project.
