A big thanks

Dear Editor: The Covington Lions Club and Main Street Covington would like to say thanks to all of the people who took part in the 2008 Christmas Parade held on Dec. 6. This year’s parade was a success because of the efforts of many folks like you. As the Lions and you have found, it takes time to plan and prepare entries in the parade. Whether it be a walking group, a simple decorated truck or an ornate award-winning float, it does take the efforts of a lot of people. A big thanks goes out to the city of Covington and the Covington Police Department for their help with the parade in providing and helping with the street barricades and manning intersections, as traffic for the four hours of the parade can be a nightmare.

Safety is an utmost concern for The Lions Club. Thanks also to our local media and newspaper for their help in providing the needed information so all know when the parade will be and where. Also, a thank you to the merchants along the route and the Chamber of Commerce for their understanding and aid.

This year we had four marching bands and next year we look for more than that. We have invited several other area bands to participate and hopefully they will be with us. It was an honor to have the band from Fort Gillem with us this year on stage before the parade as we saluted our own National Guard Bravo troops who will be deployed early in 2009. Our prayers are with them and their families.

Next year’s parade promises to be even better than this year’s as I have already heard what some folks have in ideas for their floats.

Thanks to all for your help and have a happy and prosperous New Year.
