Mr. T.J. Oglesby, age 85, a lifelong resident of Newton County passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017.  He was born in Porterdale to Charlie and Victoria Oglesby who have preceded him in death.  Mr. Oglesby served in the United States Marine Corp for a short time before being called home at the death of his father.  Mr. Oglesby was an insurance agent for Independent Life and Accident Insurance Company for 38 years; after his retirement he worked for Newton Package Store for another 30 years. He loved going on cruises and went on 35 cruises with his wife and family over the years; he enjoyed fishing and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.  Mr. Oglesby also enjoyed going to Panama City and spending time with his family.  He would meet a group of friends every morning for breakfast at McDonald’s on 278 in Covington a tradition that spanned many years. 

Mr. Oglesby was preceded in death by his wife; Sarah Oglesby and is survived by his daughters; Kathie Wynegar (Joe) of Ellijay and Susan Parish, of Covington, his step-daughters; Mary Ann Rice (Jerry) of Social Circle and Cyndi O’Neil, of Covington, his son-in-law; Wesley Parish, also of Covington.  He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews, other family and close friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Oglesby will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends Monday June 26, 2017 at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.  J.C.
