Mr. John A. (Johnny) Kitchens, 74, of Covington passed away on Saturday April 26, 2014 at DeKalb Medical Center. He was born in Covington to the late Omra and Lois Gordon Kitchens.

Johnny retired in 2010 from Mobil Oil Company and most recently worked for Loyal Gas Company in Covington. He loved traveling with family and friends, photography and making family videos. Johnny was a loving husband to his wife of 40 years Polly, who passed away in 2012; a loving father to his daughters and sons-in-law Mary and Tommy Jentzen and Rocky and Shaggy Derifield, all of Oxford; loving brother to his siblings Annette Cagle of Covington and Lamar Kitchens of Mansfield; loving grandfather to Chrystal & Jesse Young; Brandon Derifield and Thomas Derifield; loving great-grandfather to Emalee Young and loving uncle to several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service for Johnny will be held on Wednesday April 30 at 2 p.m. at Lawnwood Memorial Park with Rev. Andy Parker officiating. His family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home. Guests may sign the online register at wheelerfuneralhome.com.
