Mr. John Ivson Wheeler, 79, a lifelong resident of Covington, died Nov. 5. The son of the late Ira Lee and Ruthie Viola (Daniel) Wheeler, he was born in 1929. Mr. Wheeler proudly served our country in the United States Army, Air Force and Navy. He retired from the U.S. Navy and served in the Korean War. He also retired from Mobile Oil Company and worked for AT&T. He was preceded in death by parents and wife Janet E. Yancey Wheeler. Surviving are son and daughter-in-law Kenneth and Lisa Wheeler of Covington; son John A. Wheeler of Toccoa; daughter Dr. Jan E. Lubas of Jefferson City, Tenn.; grandchildren Keri, Brandi, mark, Alyssa and Ansley; eight great-grandchildren; sisters Annie lee parish and Betty Harvey, both of Covington; brothers Norman Wheeler of Conyers, Jack Wheeler, Bill Wheeler and Bob Wheeler, all of Covington; several nieces, nephews, other family and close friends.

The family will receive friends at Wheeler Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 7. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, in the chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home with the Rev. Alan Posey and the Rev. Clifton Brown officiating. Interment will follow in County Line Baptist Church Cemetery.
