Mr. Garland C. Shields, age 81, of Covington, Georgia passed away December 8, 2012 surrounded by his family.  He was born September 1, 1931 in Franklin, North Carolina to the late John Bunyan and Naomi Tallent Shields.  Mr. Shields was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country proudly during the Korean War and retired from the National Guard during Desert Storm.  He worked for a number of years as an accountant with Hercules and after retirement obtained his real estate license and worked for 10 years as a real estate agent.  An avid reader Mr. Shields was always in search of knowledge.

 

Mr. Shields is survived by his 5 daughters; Amy Roll of Gaston, SC Sharon Temples of Covington, GA Pat and Jim Weatherly of Sugar Hill, GA Justine Shields of Buford, GA and Sidney and Mark Lang of Covington, GA.  He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law; Bill and Sara Shields of Eugene, OR and Joe and Ann Shields of Flovilla, GA along with 8 grandchildren; Brandon Temples, Brittany Temples, Hannah Roll, Evan Seiler, Rachel Wahaus, Melody Wahaus, Zach Lang and Abby Lang and 2 great grandchildren; Logan Broach and Bailey Nix.

 

Memorial services will be held at 2 O’clock Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at Covington City Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4pm until 6pm on Tuesday, December 11, 2012.  J.C.
