Melvin Evans “Jack” Williams, 78 of Oxford, passed away peacefully at home Thursday April 2, 2015. Jack was born in Oxford, Georgia to the late Melvin and Mildred Williams. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Dodd.
Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather “Papa or Pops”. Mr. Williams was attending Berry College when he was drafted into the Army. After serving his county, he went to work for General Motors Lakewood plant where he retired after 33 years. Jack was a member and deacon of Cornish Mountain Baptist Church for over 55 years. He was an avid gardener and loved Georgia Bulldogs football. Jack loved to fish and enjoyed eating his catch. He loved his faithful dog Daisy and enjoyed the outdoors. Jack’s favorite saying was “Whatcha know good? In five letters – J E S U S”. More than anything, Jack loved the Lord and his favorite color was Jesus.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sandra Joan Williams; daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Charlie Alexander, son Darrell Williams, son and daughter-in-law Darin and Karen Williams and daughter Dana Williams Smith; grandchildren Chasity, Brent (Becky), Nait (Tabby), Melvin (Misty), Carli, Gabby, Austin, Brandon, Tyler, Harley, Hunter and Linda Sue; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Brenda Rappe and twin brother Milton “Big Jack” (Margaret) Williams.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Cornish Mountain Baptist Church with Bro. Tommy Maughon, Rev. Lynn Head and Rev. Jerry Barrett officiating. Interment followed immediately after the service at Cornish Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery.
