James Joseph Sears of Covington died Sunday Dec. 11 at Westbury Health & Rehabilitation. The son of the late Fletcher Mason and Bessie S. Harper Sears, he was born in 1927 in Grayson. He served our country honorably in the United States Army from 1945 to 1947. After serving his country he returned to Covington where he was active in our community. He served as a Deacon at Highland Park Baptist Church in Conyers and was a member of Pace Masonic Lodge 558 where he was a Past Worshipful Master. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, camping and grilling out for his friends, family and lodge members.

Mr. Sears is survived by son James P. Sears of Covington; daughter and son-in-law Sonja and Tommy Queen of Covington; sisters Mae Pritchett and Mary Pannell; grandchildren Tanyia Sears, Juanita Sears Georgia, Tommy Queen, Jr., Tiffany Queen and seven great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by loving wives Dora H. Sears, Charlotte J. Sears and Eva Young Sears; parents Fletcher and Bessie Sears and several brothers and sisters.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 15 in the chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home with the Rev.Mackie Hawkins officiating. Interment will be at Lawnwood Memorial Park.
